Valentine’s Day is all about celebrating the perfect pair… You as a couple, you as two people in love, you as a happy romantic pair.
Excuse the soppiness! We’re just old romantics here at Lazy Dogz…
However, as much as we may love being wined, dined and putting our gladrags on for a romantic dinner date on Valentine’s Day, we also love to stay at home, cook up a dinner for two and make sure we don’t have to swap those comfy slippers for a pair of heels (or shiny shoes if you’re a gentleman ;)).
So here’s how we think you should spend Valentine’s Day this year and it’s all without having to take your slippers off:
Dinner date for two – it’s not just any evening, which means you need to cook up something a little bit more special than pasta or chicken kievs. We’re not saying you have to be a master in the kitchen however… Give one of these tasty recipes a try for a delicious dinner for two. And don’t forget the candles!

Harissa Lamb Cutlets with Pomegranate Couscous

Sea Bass en Papilotte with Thai Flavours

Open Ravioli with Squash and Porcini Mushrooms

Cocktails – set the mood and add a bit of flair to your evening, mojito or martini, whatever your tipple, here’s a list of cocktails for you to try to add that starry-eyed kick.

    Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri

    Raspberry Chocolate Kiss

Sweet treats – if Valentine’s Day isn’t sweet enough, the day could (and should) be topped off with a little treat! From cakes to truffles to desserts to share, give one of these sweeties a try.

We’re getting in the festive mood and feeling pretty generous here at Lazy Dogz, which can mean only one thing – it’s competition time!

There’s nothing quite like relaxing and resting over Christmas in your Lazy Dogz luxury slippers, eating your body weight in tasty food and spending time with family, friends and, of course, your pets!

We think that everyone – including your four legged friends – should get into the festive spirit. That’s why we’re asking you to send in pictures and videos of your pets (it doesn’t have to be just dogs!) feeling Christmassy. They could be helping you to wrap presents, wearing their finest Santa hats or (if they’re anything like the dogs we know) being mischievous and trying to pull down the Christmas tree!

In exchange for your fur-tastic content we’re going to be giving away a pair of our British-made, handcrafted designer slippers – give them to a loved one as a gift this Christmas or keep them as a treat for yourself!

You can enter the competition on the Lazy Dogz Facebook page here – simply comment on the post with your picture or video and you’ll be in with a chance of winning a pair of His Dogz or Her Dogz slippers! Or you can tweet us your entires to @LazyDogzUK!

Friday night saw England and Scotland lock horns in a World Cup Qualifying game at Wembley. It was a comfortable affair for England in the end as the home side triumphed 3-0, and in honour of the recent fixture we've chosen our ultimate England  v Scotland 5-a-side teams – with a difference!

Britain is the birthplace of some of the world’s most-loved dog breeds, but how do English pups match up against their Scottish counterparts? It’s time for England v Scotland, Lazy Dogz-style!

    ENGLAND

    Old English Sheepdog

    old english sheepdog

Now synonymous with Dulux (note: other paint brands are available), the Old English Sheepdog is one of the most recognisable England-born dog breeds. With a long coat that covers his face and eyes, he probably shouldn’t play in goal…

    King Charles Spaniel

    king charles spaniel

The King Charles Spaniel is one of the most popular dog breeds across the Atlantic in the States, but it originated from England, with King Charles II lending his name to the breed.

    English Setter

    english setter

Bred for a mix of endurance and athleticism, the English Setter is traditionally a hunting dog but also has a mischievous, playful side. The breed is still found working today in rural areas, but is more commonly kept as a trusted family companion dog.

    English Cocker Spaniel

    english cocker spaniel

A medium-sized dog breed with long ears and a happy disposition! They make great family pets but do require a lot of exercise. An athletic dog, they enjoy running which makes them a must for our 5-a-side team!

    English Mastiff

    english mastiff

Distinguishable by their enormous size, massive head, and a limited range of colours (but always displaying a black mask) the Mastiff is noted for its gentle and loving nature. It’s grown in worldwide popularity in recent years after a period of sharp decline.

    SCOTLAND

    West Highland White Terrier

    west highland white terrier

The Westie is arguably the most famous Scottish dog breed and is first choice for our Scotland team. The Westie is an active and intelligent breed, and is social with a high prey drive, as they were once used to hunt rodents.

    Scottish Terrier

    scottish terrier

The Scottie is an independent and rugged breed with a wiry outer coat and a soft dense undercoat. It is one of five breeds of terrier that originated in Scotland.

    Shetland Sheepdog

    shetland sheepdog

The Shetland Sheepdog is a breed of herding dog. This small dog is intelligent, vocal, excitable, energetic and willing to please and work hard.

    Scottish Deerhound

    scottish deerhound

Scottish Deerhound puppies and adolescents are as active, awkward, and mischievous as any other breed. But adults tend to be calm, graceful, and undemanding. They learn house rules well and spend much of their time sprawled blissfully on the softest sofa.

    Dandie Dinmont Terrier

    dandie dinmont terrier

Nicknamed the gentleman of the terrier family, the Dandie Dinmont is calm and reserved. His small size and moderate exercise needs make him well suited to both city and country homes.

    6 Great Rainy Day Activities!

Is it just us, or has the temperature this week suddenly shifted from “a bit chilly” to Game of Thrones-style sub-zero conditions?! It’s safe to say that winter is no longer coming – it’s well and truly here. With the cold weather come more layers, shorter days and, inevitably, more rain....

Is it just us, or has the temperature this week suddenly shifted from “a bit chilly” to Game of Thrones-style sub-zero conditions?! It’s safe to say that winter is no longer coming – it’s well and truly here.

With the cold weather come more layers, shorter days and, inevitably, more rain. Although we’re all used to rain here in the UK, there’s something about rainy, wintery days that make us want to hibernate in our luxury designer slippers and avoid going outside unless absolutely necessary.

As it’s the weekend, we thought we’d share some great activities that you can try when the weather is less than pleasant, all in the comfort of your own home. (Hint: they’re even more fun when you’re wearing your Lazy Dogz slippers…)

    1. Pick up an old hobby

    dog playing guitar

You know that acoustic guitar gathering dust in the corner? And that jigsaw you got three Christmases ago? When the weather’s gloomy outside and you’re stuck indoors, picking up where you left off with an old hobby can help keep your mind stimulated and is a great way to pass the time!

    2. Spring Winter clean

    dog vacuum cleaner

No one likes doing anything too taxing on their days off, but if you’ve got around-the-house jobs to be doing you may as well take advantage of a rainy day and make the most of the time you have. It might just be rearranging your living room, finally tackling that ironing pile or giving your oven its first deep-clean in years. Whatever you decide to take on, you’ll feel a lot better for doing it!

    3. Try some new recipes

    dog cooking in kitchen

If you work 9-5 you can get stuck in a bit of a routine when it comes to planning your evening meals. A weekend indoors is a great time to dig out those recipe books and online guides and try out some new more adventurous dishes for the week ahead! Gone are the days of microwave lasagnes…

    4. Watch a classic movie

    dogs watching classic movie

The likes of Netflix are a great way to kill time, but instead of binge-watching another series this weekend, why not watch a movie that you’ve not seen but really should have? The internet is full of helpful lists of classic films that you need to see at some point in your life. What do you mean, you’ve not watched The Godfather trilogy? Get on with it!

    5. Play a board game

    cat and dog monopoly characters

Have a break from the Xbox or PS4 – search around in your loft or wardrobe and see if you can find an old board game and have some old-fashioned fun with your friends or family. Monopoly is a great way to pass time on a rainy day and will keep you entertained (and quite possible very angry) for a good few hours!

    6. Put your feet up in your...

You guessed it! Rainy days are slipper days. Luckily for you we have a pretty nice collection of luxury handmade slippers for you to choose from…

We’re in October now, and as the nights get darker and the temperature drops considerably, you can definitely tell that autumn is here. While we love any season that justifies slipper-wearing, we do admit that the post-summer blues may be kicking in for more than a few of you. Your summer holiday is becoming a distant memory, and there’s still weeks to go until all that lovely time off over Christmas.

However, it doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom; autumn presents an ideal opportunity to get a quick holiday fix with a short city break in Europe. They don’t cost the earth, and sometimes a long weekend away is exactly what you need to get you through the bleak autumn months! With this in mind, here are six amazing cities which make for the perfect October getaway…

    Bruges

A trip to Bruges feels like stepping back in time, with its medieval architecture and quaint squares and side streets even more beautiful in the autumn months. Easily accessible from the UK by road, air or sea, Bruges makes for the perfect long weekend at any time of year, but in October the tourist numbers drop, giving you more opportunity to explore its incredible museums, history and culture – and chocolate. Don’t forget the chocolate.

    bruges in autumn

    Berlin

Since the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, Berlin has reinvented itself as one of the must cultural and creative cities in Europe, if not the world. The summer is undoubtedly party season in the German capital, but the autumn months give you the chance to explore the city’s famous history, art and culture, with iconic landmarks such as Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag building not to be missed.

    berlin in autumn

    Paris

We couldn’t really write a European city break blog without including Paris, could we? The French capital is worth a visit every day of the year, but in autumn the streets, shops and bars are less crowded (not to mention less expensive), and the golden leaves on the trees make the Parisian parks and gardens (such as the incredible Versailles) look more beautiful than ever.

    paris in autumn

    Copenhagen

You’ll need to wrap up warm, but visiting the Danish capital in autumn lets you experience ‘real Denmark’ with crisp cold air accompanying the beautiful sunshine. Copenhagen is synonymous with what the Danish call “hygge” - there’s no direct translation for this term but it’s basically the concept of coziness, warmth and comfort. It means coming in from the cold for drinks and dinner with your family and relaxing in your slippers – bliss!

    copenhagen in autumn

    Rome

It’s usually associated with summer holidays, but there’s no real off season in Rome. Visiting the beautiful and historical Italian capital in autumn allows you to enjoy idyllic weather with less humidity in the air. There are fewer tourists and annoying queues at usual hotspots such as the Vatican City and the Colosseum, and the autumn months also play host to a number of food, drink and cultural festivals and events which most tourists miss out on!

To be fair, it must be pretty hard to walk up the stairs when you've got four legs to coordinate - why bother when you can get a piggyback ride from your owner?!

Why did you have to throw it so far?

99% of dogs love playing fetch. But not Cocoa. Cocoa does not enjoy playing fetch.

Walkies? No chance, I'm far too comfy

Cold, hard laminate flooring doesn’t sound like the most comfortable bed in the world, but this pooch is adamant he’s not getting up today…

    Morning? Already?

This dog just isn’t ready for another long and tiring day of eating, sleeping and more eating to begin.

    Tired collies

What could be cuter than a tired collie puppy? Yep, you guessed it - lots of tired collie puppies!

Cleo the puppy is the prime example of a lazy dog and absolutely refuses to wake up from her slumber.

Who says cats and dogs can't get along?

We’re not sure just how much Murkin the lab is enjoying it, but these kittens seem to be enjoying their comfy new pillow!

    Zzzzz...wait...is that bacon?

Because nobody can resist the smell of bacon.

OK, this is more of an example of a lazy owner rather than a lazy dog, but it's just too good not to share!

3 Months Until Christmas: 6 Tips for Getting Organised Early!

Although summer technically only ended on Thursday, autumn has been in the air for quite some time and the nights are definitely starting to get shorter and colder! Although summer technically only ended on Thursday, autumn has been in the air for quite some time and the nights are definitely starting to get shorter and colder! The year is flying by, and you’ll probably be surprised (and a little bit terrified) to learn that this Sunday marks exactly three months until Christmas Day.

    AARGH!

Try not to panic, though – three months is still 91 sleeps before the big day (we’re not helping, are we?) and that’s plenty of time to get organised. While we’re usually a pretty lazy bunch, we love Christmas a lot and make sure we’re always ready for 25th December with time to spare. How do we do it? Well, here are some helpful tips to help you get organised for Christmas and take the stress out of the holiday season!

Christmas cards - start them early. Start them NOW!

You might be feeling far from festive in September, but cracking on with your Christmas card list early is a great place to start with your preparations. It’s one of the most arduous tasks associated with the holidays and can take up a lot of valuable time if you leave it until the last minute. Start on them today and write a couple a day for the next few weeks so it doesn’t feel like such a chore!

    dog holding pen in mouth

Make room for all those presents

This is a particularly handy tip for those of you with young children. Christmas day can see your house transformed into a Toys ‘R’ Us warehouse, and you’ll probably be struggling to find room for all the new present arrivals. The build up to Christmas is a great time to have a bit of a clear out and make some space for all those gifts.

puppy looking in christmas present box

    Stock up on the essentials

The majority of supermarkets now have a small aisle space dedicated to Christmas, and it’s a good idea to pick up some of the essentials now to avoid being disappointed when you find they’re all snapped up on Christmas Eve. Pick up your wrapping paper, table decorations and some long-lasting food and drink early so you’ve got less to worry about in December.

    dog christmas shopping

Plan ahead with reservations and social events

Some of you will have plans for family meals and parties over the Christmas period, so make sure you’re organised and have booked your tables and function rooms by the end of October at the very latest. It’s also a good idea to make plans for when and where you’re going to be seeing friends and family during the holidays – you can’t be everywhere at once, so make concrete plans as soon as you can to avoid disappointing people.

    dogs at christmas dinner table

    Test out your decorations

You don’t want to be putting up decorations in December and finding that your lights don’t work, the crackers have got damp and the tree has fallen apart whilst it’s been stuck up in the loft for 12 months. Inspect your decorations and make sure everything is in order to avoid more panic in the weeks leading to the 25th.

    dog in christmas box

    And of course...

DON’T PUT OFF PRESENT SHOPPING UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE! The sooner you start the sooner it’s done, so get yourself organised and make a list of who you need to buy for and what initial ideas you have. For what it’s worth, we heard that a certain brand of slippers make for the perfect Christmas gift…

Back to School: 5 Fascinating Slipper Facts!

It’s fair to say that slippers aren’t widely considered to be one of the most exciting topics to discuss at a dinner party. It’s fair to say that slippers aren’t widely considered to be one of the most exciting topics to discuss at a dinner party. However, here at Lazy Dogz, we’re ready to put an end to this unfair stereotype and prove once and for all that comfy slippers are far from boring!

As the kids are back at school this month, we felt the need to educate some of you with a whole host of interesting information about everyone’s favourite footwear. So, here you have it – five fascinating facts about the wonderful world of slippers!

    1. A dark history...

The first written mention of slippers dates back to the 12th Century in what is now Vietnam. Rather sinisterly, slippers started as the footwear worn by the female servants of a rich sultan – the thin and slippery soles meant that they wouldn’t be able to escape from captivity due to the hard, rocky terrain outside. In the West, slippers were first recorded around the year 1480.

    2. Slippers for the stars

The ruby red slippers worn by Judy Garland in the original Wizard of Oz film are undoubtedly one of the world’s most famous pairs. They’re also one of the world’s most expensive pairs of slippers too – the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences bought them at auction in 2012 for over $2 million thanks to the help of Leonardo DiCaprio and Steven Spielberg.

    3. Cinderella's glass slippers weren't made out of glass

It’s a tale that has been told for hundreds and hundreds of years, but Cinderella’s famous slippers were apparently not originally made out of glass. There are over 500 versions of the story in hundreds of languages, with the earliest dating back to 9th Century China – back then, the slippers were made of gold or silver and sometimes embellished with gems. The glass slippers which we know today were the result of a translator error. Either way, we can't imagine them being as comfy as some of our fur-lined Lazy Dogz pairs...

    4. Record-breaking slipper wearing

Love wearing your slippers? Never want to take them off? Well you’ve got some way to go to beat Derek ‘The Slipper Man’ Fan – back in 2007, he entered the Guinness Book of World Records after wearing a pair of dress slippers for 23 years straight. Pee-yew.

    5. Want good grades? Wear your slippers...

The world’s most successful exam taker attributed his phenomenal success to turning up to the exam hall in his slippers.  “It’s important to have comfortable feet,” he said, after passing a staggering 70 O-levels (GCSEs), 16 A-Levels, one S-Level and gaining an Open University degree. Studies have found that the more formal the attire equals the poorer the results, so you might be wise to rock up to your next exam or test at work in your Lazy Dogz designer slippers and a comfy dressing gown!

So, there you have it, a quick look at the fascinating - and sometimes a bit bizarre - story of slippers. Not so boring after all, right?!

It’s important to remember to appreciate the little things in life, don’t you think? For instance, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of getting home after a hard day of being on your feet, kicking off your shoes and slipping into your comfiest fluffy slippers to relax for the evening. It doesn’t get much better than that for us here at Lazy Dogz!

If we were to list things which could top that feeling, then this would be a very short blog – so, here’s a collection of some of life’s little pleasures that are almost as good as putting on your handcrafted Lazy Dogz slippers!

Waking up before your alarm and realising you've still got a few hours of sleep left

Yes, waking up at 5am isn't ideal, but when you remember you don't have to be up until seven those last two hours feel like the greatest gift ever!

Checking your bank balance after pay day

Most of us deliberately avoid checking our bank balance out of pure fear, but when pay day finally rolls around we're straight to the cash machine feeling like millionaires.

Visiting your family and leaving with a year's supply of food

You'll agree with this if you've ever been to uni or moved away from home. A weekend visit sees you return with about 50 frozen meals, a bakery full of biscuits and more fresh meat than the local butcher!

    dogs with lots of food

Asking a question on Google and immediately finding the answer

"Where can I buy handcrafted luxury UK designer dog themed slippers?" Ah, thank you Google!

Stepping off the plane when you land abroad on holiday

Goodbye cold, unpredictable British weather - hello sweltering heat! When you first step onto the runway and the heat hits you, you know the holiday has officially started.

Flipping the pillow over to the cold side

Struggling to sleep? Getting agitated and uncomfortable? This old age trick of flipping your pillow over to the cold side will make everything right with the world again.

Getting into a bed with freshly-washed sheets

This is right up there with putting on your comfiest pair of Lazy Dogz slippers. Clean sheets and a freshly-made bed are just what you want to come home to after a long day at work!

    dog sleeping under the covers

That first coffee of the day on a Monday morning

It takes most of us a good few hours to wake up on Monday after a nice relaxing weekend. That first coffee or tea is the ultimate pick-me-up that you need to get you through the worst day of the week - it's only five days, you can do it!

cup of coffee with dog pattern

Getting to the till and paying less than you expected to

As the saying goes, you get nothing for free in this life. So, getting to the till and discovering that the item you want has just been brought down in price feels like a mini victory!

couple shopping in supermarket with dog

Finding money you didn't realise you had

You're about to catch the bus home from work, you fish around in your purse for some loose change and - what's this? Where did that £20 come from? It looks like a taxi home followed by a takeaway for you tonight!

August is the best month of the year – it’s official. Not only did we get to spend the whole day relaxing in our Lazy Dogz slippers on the 10th for National Lazy Day, today we get to celebrate everything we love about our canine companions. Yep, you guessed it, today is National Dog Day!

As you might expect, National Dog Day is like Christmas and birthdays all rolled into one for us here at Lazy Dogz – we’ll look for any excuse to celebrate man’s best friend and post a few cute puppy pictures!

close up of happy Labrador puppu

National Dog Day was started back in 2004 in Los Angeles, California. It was set up by an amazing animal enthusiast named Colleen Paige, who wanted to bring national attention to the plight of our furry friends, encourage adoption and celebrate the incredible impact that they have on our lives. It was originally seen as an American day, but its popularity quickly spread – it’s now celebrated internationally in countries around the world. 26th August was chosen as that was the day Colleen’s family adopted their first pup, back when she was ten years old.

Colleen’s mission is to save 10,000 dogs that suffer from neglect and are in need of rescue and adoption by raising awareness of what dogs do for us. It celebrates ALL dogs around the world, whether pure or mixed breed, and recognises the way they put their lives on the line for us each and every day. Dogs are amazing animals, whether they’re guiding the blind, sniffing for explosives, detecting seizures or simply bringing us comfort or entertainment.

So, what you can do to celebrate the greatest day of the year? Whether it’s heading to your nearest dog’s home to adopt the newest member of your family or simply taking your pooch for an extra-long walk to say thank you, National Dog Day encourages everyone to get involved in any way that they can, big or small. They have some great ideas for celebrating the day with your four-legged friend on their website here if you’re looking for inspiration!

Personally, we’ll be putting our feet up in our favourite pair of dog-themed luxury slippers, sticking on a DVD of Beethoven and spending the day spoiling our very own lazy dogs whilst cuddled up on the sofa!

One of the best things about the summer is being able to enjoy a walk with your furry friend when it’s nice outside. Although it’s vitally important to keep your dog cool in hot weather, a relaxing walk in the fresh air when the weather is pleasant and dry takes some beating!

Walks are a vital form of exercise for dogs, and to make sure you and your pooch are getting the most enjoyment out of them we’ve put together some great location ideas to help you find the perfect place for walkies! Dogs love exploring and discovering new places and new smells, so try to keep your destinations varied to keep things interesting for you both…

    The Beach

Although your dog will love a trip to the beach at any time of year, the less-than-lovely British weather means that you’ll probably only get enjoyment out of it yourself in the summer months!

golden retriever puppies playing on beach

There are just under 500 dog-friendly beaches across the UK which will welcome your pet all year round, and if you’re lucky enough to live near one it’s definitely something that your dog should experience. They’ll love the new smells, paddling in the sea and feeling the unusual sandy terrain on their paws! Beaches offer plenty of open space for your dog to enjoy but be warned, you’ll be cleaning sand off of them for days!

    Why not try...

Studland Beach (Dorset), Easington (East Yorkshire), Embleton (Northumberland), Sandyhills (Dumfries & Galloway)

    National Trust Trails

National Trust offers a huge range of places that are perfect for your pooch, with trails and paths available to enjoy across the country. There are some amazing locations and landscapes that your dog will love exploring, with a number of dog-friendly walking trails listed on the NT’s website.

    dog countryside walk

National Trust areas all have convenient car parks, so even if you don’t live nearby you’ll still be able to enjoy the very best that the British countryside has to offer providing your dog travels well.

    Why not try...

River Arrow dog walk (Alcester), Chapel Cliff (Cornwall), Clent Hills (Worcestershire), Down Banks (Staffordshire), Killerton (Exeter)

    Your local park

Regardless of where you live, the chances are there’ll be a park not too far away from your home. The local park will undoubtedly become one of your go-to destinations for walkies, and it gives your dog the chance to meet and play with other dogs who live nearby – who knows, you might even make some new friends yourself (canine companions make for a great ice-breaker!)

jack russel terrier french bulldog playing

The majority of parks get very busy in the summer, particularly in the school holidays. It’s best to keep your dog on a lead until you reach a designated area where you know it’s allowed to let them run free.

    Why not try...

    Searching for your nearest park

    Woodlands

Woodlands are a great environment for your dog to explore, full of smells, sounds and sights that they will find fascinating! Summer is a great place to plan a woodlands walk as you’ll be under the cover of trees for the majority of walk, ensuring that your dog doesn’t get too hot in the sun.

    dog running in the forest

There’s lots for your furry friend to discover on a walk in the woods, and plenty for you to enjoy too including peace and tranquillity, some spectacular views and lots of wildlife.

    Why not try...

Haldon Forest Park (Exeter), Dalby Forest (Yorkshire), The Red Walk (Somerset), New Forest (Hampshire)

10th August is National Lazy Day, and as you’d expect, here at Lazy Dogz we don’t feel like doing much at all today. We intended to put together a detailed blog about the history behind it, but on a day like this who can be bothered doing lots of research? Not us.

So, instead, here’s a nice and simple 5 step guide to help you get the most out of our favourite day of the year – what to do, what not to do and what to wear on your feet (you can probably guess that last one…)

    Sleep, relax, sleep some more...

National Lazy Day is all about putting your feet up on the sofa or staying in bed for as long as possible. Don’t worry if you’ve already got up and got on with your day – we won’t tell anyone if you feel like sloping off back under the covers for a mid-afternoon nap…

    Watch lots of TV/Films/Netflix

It’s the one day of the year that you shouldn’t feel guilty about being a couch potato, so use National Lazy Day as a unique opportunity to binge watch a ton of shows or movies. Never seen Game of Thrones before? Now’s your chance to catch up. As for that 9-hour special extended edition Lord of the Rings box set you’ve got gathering dust on the shelf – get to it.

    Avoid cooking at all costs

We mean it – don’t even think about stepping foot in that kitchen unless it’s to put some beers or wine in the fridge. Treat yourself to a takeaway tonight and let someone else do the hard work for you. Order it online so you don’t even have to pick up the phone and have unnecessary human interaction – winner!

    dog eating pizza

    Put your phone on silent

National Lazy Day is not a day to be worrying about phone calls, messages or emails. Put work worries and everyday stresses to the back of your mind and make sure use of your phone is reserved exclusively for mindlessly scrolling through your social media feeds and ordering that aforementioned takeaway.

Feeling Lazy? Here are 5 Sports That Don't Require Much Effort!

Rio 2016 kicks off this weekend, and it looks like everyone is gripped by Olympic fever. While it’s sure to be an eventful and exciting spectacle, we can’t help but feel that being an Olympian would just be far too much effort – we’d much rather sit back on the sofa in our Lazydogz slippers and watch Mo Farah run the 10,000 metres than attempt it ourselves!

That said, there are still sports and games that you can get involved in without putting in too much effort – which is ideal if you enjoy lazing around a bit too much! You can even win Olympic medals for excelling at some of these sports, so they’re not to be sniffed at. Here are our top five sports that don’t require too much physical exertion…

    Golf

Golf is undoubtedly an incredibly difficult and technical sport to grasp, and we’re not trying to offend any keen golfers by calling them lazy! But it’s definitely one of the least physically-taxing sports you can play. Buggy rides from hole to hole, the odd swing here and there and spending most of your days outside in the sun – it can be an incredibly relaxing sport and is a great way to unwind!

    asleep on the golf course

    Archery

Archery has been contested at the Olympics since 1900, and requires incredible levels of composure, mental strength and, of course, a good aim. However, it’s unlikely to burn off a lot of calories, so it qualifies for our top five. If you fancy yourself as the next Legolas or Katniss Everdeen, why not give it a go?

    bow and arrow archery course

    Darts

Just like archery, darts requires a good eye. A notable difference, though, is that you can play it in the pub – winner! Darts players aren’t exactly known for their super-fit lifestyles (far from it…) but it’s still a challenging sport that requires great skill and dedication. So, dig out your best oversized shirt, head down to your local and step up to the oche!

    woman playing darts

    Lawn Bowls

Lawn bowls isn’t at the Rio Olympics, but it is a regular feature of the Commonwealth Games. If you want to play a competitive sport outside but don’t want to break sweat, lawn bowls could well be for you. It’s got a bit of reputation as being a game for the older generation, but hey – standing around in the sun with your friends, bowling the odd ball? Sounds good to us!

group of friends playing lawn bowls

    Pool

Another sport which has the added advantage of being playable in the pub! Pool is a great game, all about angles, composure and technique. It takes years to master properly, but you can have lots of fun while you're learning by playing for fun with friends. You don’t have to be physically fit to play it, but the ability to think under pressure and plan your next move is vital.

woman playing pool in a pub

So there you have it, five great sports and games to get involved in that are ideal for us lazy lot!

Still not convinced? Fair enough – enjoy sitting in front of the TV, relaxing in your handmade Lazydogz slippers and watching Usain Bolt and co do their thing in Rio!

How to Keep Your Dog Cool in Hot Weather

This week’s heatwave has got everybody talking, and although you can never be too sure how long the summer sun is going to last here in the UK, we wanted to share with you some very important tips for keeping your dog cool in the hot weather. This week’s heatwave has got everybody talking, and although you can never be too sure how long the summer sun is going to last here in the UK, we wanted to share with you some very important tips for keeping your dog cool in the hot weather.

We’ve had the hottest day of the year so far this week, and if you think you’ve been struggling to cope with heat, spare a thought for Man’s Best Friend who has to battle the soaring temperatures whilst wearing a fur coat!

Avoid midday walks and keep them short

We all know that dogs love keeping active outside, but please make sure that your dog isn’t suffering when you’re taking them for a walk. Avoid the midday sun and walk your dog early in the morning or late at night to avoid the sun at its most fierce. Vigorous exercise is great for dogs, but at this time of year, don’t work them too hard.

    Don't ignore panting

You need to keep an eye out for signs of your dog being dehydrated. Remember, dogs can’t sweat – they cool off by panting and will drool if overheated. Carry a bottle of water with you during your walks so you can keep your dog as hydrated as possible. It’s also worth noting that overweight dogs and dogs with darker coats are at higher risk of dehydration.

Keep your dog cool and comfortable

You don’t have to have expensive air conditioning installed to keep your dog cool. Lay down a wet towel for them to lie on, find a nice shady spot for them in the garden or sponge cool water on them when they’re suffering. Dogs cool from the bottom up, so cool their paws and stomach first and not just the top of their coat. If you have a sprinkler system in your garden, turn it on and let a light mist of water spray over your dog to keep them comfortable.

Avoid hot pavement and walk on cool surfaces

Pavement can get scorching in the summer, so if possible try and walk your dog on softer, cooler surfaces such as grassy fields. Hot pavement can blister your dog’s paws and make it very painful for them to walk, making them even more irritated in the hot weather.

NEVER lock your dog in a car

Everyone should be aware of the dangers of this, but sadly the emergency services still receive hundreds of calls a day in summer concerning dogs being locked in cars. Even if windows are open and the car is parked in the shade, dogs are still in great danger – cars can become as hot as ovens and turn into greenhouses very quickly. Dogs can suffer from heatstroke, dehydration, claustrophobia and panic attacks if they’re left in a hot car. NEVER do it.

5 'Cool' Alternatives to the Traditional Summer Holiday!

We all love going away on a relaxing summer holiday – there’s nothing quite like feeling the heat on your skin and the sand beneath your feet as you enjoy some well-deserved rest and relaxation on a gorgeous white sand beach with family or friends.

That said, there’s an obvious downside to spending your summer in the sweltering heat – it’s too hot to wear your Lazydogz slippers! (OK, maybe two downsides – let’s not forget the sunburn…)

If you’re looking for some cooler alternatives for your summer holiday this year, we’ve put together a collection of five great destinations where you can avoid the heat and still have a great time before unwinding in your favourite pair of moccasin slippers.

    New South Wales, AUSTRALIA

Australia is currently in its winter months, making it an obvious alternative to roasting in the Mediterranean heat. New South Wales is home to the many landmarks of famous city Sydney (pictured), and it also boasts the fantastic ski and snowboarding offering of Mount Kosciusko. So, all you thrill-seekers can hit the slopes before heading back to the cabin and putting your feet up in style with your high quality Lazydogz slippers!

    Zealand, DENMARK

If you’re still in search of sun this summer but want to avoid the unbearable temperatures, consider a trip to the north of Denmark’s largest island to check out the capital Copenhagen. Denmark, like the rest of Scandinavia, offers plenty of sunshine during the summer months but at comfortable temperatures with pleasant breezes. Check out the country’s most visited attraction, the beautiful Tivoli Gardens (pictured), for an experience you’ll never forget.

    Patagonia, ARGENTINA

If it’s snow that you’re seeking, South America is probably the last place you’ll have thought about for your summer holiday, but areas such as Patagonia – which is on the Argentina/Chile border - are home to some of the most picturesque snow-tipped mountain landscapes and glaciers, with a wealth of skiing and snowboarding opportunities! Yes, it’s a long way to go for a skiing holiday, but a trip to South America is something everyone should experience at some point.

    Cape Town, SOUTH AFRICA

The South African capital is on most people’s holiday bucket lists, and as it’s off season during our summer months, it’s the perfect time to visit. You’ll have the opportunity to properly explore the area when there aren’t nearly as many tourists as there are during peak times. You’ll probably have to brave a bit of rain or snow, but there is still so much to do and see in the city, from marvelling at the views from the top of Table Mountain to visiting the Port of Cape Town (pictured).

    Just about anywhere, UNITED KINGDOM

We all know how temperamental the Great British summer can be – it’s hard to tell that summer is here when you’re spending your morning commute to work huddled under an umbrella in July! That said, sometimes a few days away exploring our country’s green and (sometimes) pleasant land can be just what you need. From camping in North Wales or exploring the Scottish Highlands to a weekend in London (pictured), the UK offers plenty to do during the summer and won’t break the bank either! And once you’re done exploring the nation, put your feet up and relax with a few home comforts – a pair of beautifully handcrafted mens or womens slippers, for example!

It’s that time of year, Spring is upon us and although the weather hasn’t realised it, we are well into April. So it’s time for the annual Spring clean. It doesn’t have to be a drag and you don’t have to face it alone but we’ve narrowed down the top five places that can’t be missed.

First of all make it fun, involve the whole family, share the load, many hands make light work. Get each family to bring their favourite CD and blast the tunes through the house. Make a game of it, hide a token somewhere in the house and which ever family member finds it first gets to choose what’s for tea. Just remember to have age appropriate jobs.

Ok, the wardrobe. If you haven’t worn it for a year chances are you aren’t going to wear it again. Get rid of all your old stuff, re-organise everything and either donate it to charity or head on down to a car-boot sale. You’ll be surprised what you can earn from a few boxes of your old stuff.

Now we’re hoping all of you wash your sheets every couple of weeks, but what about the actual duvet and pillows? Have you ever washed those? Check the label and chuck those in the machine (on the relevant cycle) to freshen up the bed.

Many of you may have a lovely window cleaner who cleans the outsides of your windows but if they're still streaky chances are you need to do the inside as well. Get the Windowlene spray out and use it with a dry cloth. Top tip: buff the windows with a cotton or linen tea towel for super shine.

Are you getting smoke or a burning smell when you use the oven? It’s time to clean that too. You will need: rubber gloves; kitchen roll; scrubbing brush; microfibre cloth; Cif oven cleaner and a blunt knife or spoon. Gloves on, kitchen roll on the floor around the oven. Use the knife or spoon to remove any  loose or caked on food, this will help the Cif to do its magic. Apply the Cif and leave for 30 mins, (always read the product label before use) when you return scrub the oven- avoiding the fan- and then wipe away the excess solution with the microfibre cloth. Ta da! Beautiful clean oven!

Lastly the patio furniture. Grab it out of the garage or wherever it’s being stored and blast it with the hose pipe to get rid of any cobwebs and dirt. Then use kitchen roll and antibacterial spray to get into the nooks and crannies. This is the best job because when the patio furniture is out it means Summer is on its way!

(You might want to treat yourself to some new Lazydogz after all your hard work!)

    Happy cleaning!

Easter weekend is coming up fast this year, where have January and February gone? Hopefully we’ll get some nice weather ready to have some Easter fun. We have a few ideas on how to get the party started.

Our first fun idea will involve some hard-boiled eggs and lots of newspaper. Cover the kitchen surfaces with the newspaper, (otherwise you'll end up with coloured surfaces) and get the paints, glue and bits and bobs out and have a decorating competition between the family. See who can make the best dressed egg.

We have the classic Easter egg hunt. Any kind of eggs will do, the kids will probably prefer chocolate eggs but be careful if your dogs are around because they will probably find the eggs before the kids and remember, they can’t eat chocolate, so it’s probably best if you shut them safely away for a couple of hours. It’s really easy to do and lots of fun for everyone, don’t forget to save the biggest egg for the winner.

We’re going to go sophisticated now, how about an Easter tea party. Lots of little sandwiches and cakes and mini eggs. Juice for the little ones and if your feeling flamboyant a bit a fizz for the adults. A great way to get all the family together.

Let’s get cooking, grab the kids and get into the kitchen and make a mess. Hopefully some tasty food will appear at the end, maybe try hot-cross buns for an Easter theme.

If we do get lovely weather this Easter then make some hard boiled eggs and get outside and find the nearest hill. Stand at the top and roll your eggs down. The one who makes it to the bottom first and without breaking is the winner! If your eggs don’t break you can keep the races going all day.

    Have a lovely Easter weekend!

We all want to be fit and healthy but with our busy lives it's hard to fit the time in to exercise, and to find the motivation after a long day of work to hit the gym.  For all you dog owners out there you have the solution sitting on the floor by your feet.

Many studies have shown that people with dogs are around 34 % more likely to exercise than those without.  They are the perfect work-out buddy!  They always have energy and are ready to go, and if you think about dropping your pace you can think again because your little pooch won't let you.  Their energy and enthusiasm is so contagious that you'll find your enjoying yourself, and interacting with them will make your endorphins rise and your stress levels fall.

The best way to maintain your fitness level is to try four walks a week.  You can incorporate dog training and muscle workouts into this too.  Whilst they practise sit you can practise 10 press-ups or 10 squats, your both winners!  To get the heart rate going even more why not take a frisbee with you and play for 15 minutes.

Don't think your stuck with just walking though, many breeds of dogs enjoy swimming, hiking, and running along side your bike, and they won't let you down or cancel like a friend or neighbour might.

Dogs love routine, if you choose a morning walk you'll probably find you don't need your alarm clock anymore as they'll wake you up with their lead in their mouth ready to go.

If you don't already have a dog and want to take a big leap, Labrador, Retrievers, Siberian Huskies and English Springer Spaniels are some of the more energetic breeds and will help with your fitness regime.

After all of this at the end of a long day they'll probably be feeling a bit lazy so you can both cuddle up on the couch for a well deserved rest (with your Lazydogz on of course)

It’s a new year a fresh start and you’ve made your new year’s resolutions and your determined to stick to it this year so we’ve got a few tips to help you do just that.

    1. Be realistic. Don’t try to lose weight, quit smoking and save more money all in one go. Choose a manageable task and make a plan. If you want to loose weight don’t say ‘I’m going to loose a 5 pounds this week’ think I’ll go to the gym three times this week. As you accomplish each session you’ll feel better and be more positive about your resolution.

    2. Write it down. Write your resolution down and put it up somewhere you can see it everyday, the little reminder will help to keep you motivated.

    3. Tell your friends and family. You don't have to complete the job alone, tell your friends and family of your plan and they can help you along the way. Whether it’s a little pep talk you need to make you go to the gym or they might even join you themselves, the support will help you get through.

    4. Remember your human. Don’t obsess over the occasional slip every now and again. Remember you are human and we can’t be perfect all the time.

    5. Celebrate. Once you’ve saved that first chunk of money or lost those first 5 pounds celebrate, you did it! Don’t forget that it’s a great achievement no matter how big or small your resolution. You could always treat yourself to a new pair of lazydogz as a well done present.

Last year, Manchester Dogs’ Home was the cruel victim of an arson attack, which devastated the shelter and resulted in the loss of more than sixty animals. They have been able to repair much of the damage done by the fire thanks to kind donations over the last year, but they still need more funds to make the shelter block a permanent fixture.

No dog deserves to be left out in the cold and we decided to do something to help. From now until Christmas Eve, we’re going to donate £1 to the Manchester Dogs’ home every time we sell a pair of our slippers.

Manchester Dogs’ Home helps so many vulnerable dogs throughout the region and do all they can to provide shelter, food and love to every animal. Any money is greatly appreciated by the charity, as Matt Cassel, fundraising manager at Manchester Dogs’ Home said: “we’ve been overwhelmed by public support over the past eighteen months and are delighted that LazyDogz has decided to support us this Christmas. Traditionally, we get a new influx of homeless dogs every January, but with our current kennel block offering only a temporary solution, we still need extra cash to fund the construction of a permanent home.”

We’re so pleased we can do something to support Manchester Dogs’ Home as they give dogs the shelter they need before they find a new, loving family. To be part of this campaign all you have to do is Tweet a picture of your pooch to @LazyDogzUK and @ManchDogs with the #LazyDogzMDH - simple.

If you’re looking to treat yourself this Christmas, buying LazyDogz slippers means you can help us to treat our canine friends too. If you want to give them something extra, why not give them a donation now before you have a look through our for him and for her range.

Struggling to get up in the morning? Tired all day? Many of us are and the thought of going to work all day really doesn’t help. Struggling to get up in the morning? Tired all day? Many of us are and the thought of going to work all day really doesn’t help. Here are some pointers to help get you out of bed and to wake you up.

First of all are you getting enough sleep? Many of us are going to bed to late and having to wake up early. In general try and have a good sleep routine and get your eight hours a night. Make sure you have relaxed in the evening and wound down, either read a book or watch your favourite television programme then you’ll be ready for sleep when you actually go to bed.

There’s nothing worse than waking up and thinking you have a hundred things to do before you’ve got to work. Get prepared the night before. Do all those little jobs like make your lunch, prep your gym bag and even decide what clothes to wear and pull them out. Make your morning as easy and stress free as possible.

Struggle to actually get out of bed? Move your alarm away from the bed then you have to get out to switch it off. There are also new apps that promise to get you out of bed. Wake n Shake makes you shake your phone in order to turn it off and sleep cycle uses motion sensors to determine when the best time to wake you up is within a preset window.

An early morning exercise will definitely get the blood flowing and the endorphins going to wake you up. Follow this by a good healthy breakfast (whole-grain carbs and protein) it will keep you full and energised all morning.

If you’ve hit the desk and those things haven’t worked don’t loose hope, there are still things you can do. Go outside and get some fresh air and vitamin D. Just because the sun may be coming through your office window doesn’t mean its worked the fresh air will revive you too. If you’re a coffee addict and that hasn’t worked try taking the milk and sugar out, the bitter taste is bound to jolt you awake and if all else fails, splash some cold water on your face, have a mint and power through until you can get home and put your feet up!

Everyone loves the summer holidays, whether its kids on their 6 week break from school or adults sneaking off to get some sun, there brilliant. What’s your favourite type of holiday? Everyone loves the summer holidays, whether its kids on their 6 week break from school or adults sneaking off to get some sun, there brilliant.

What’s your favourite type of holiday?

Is it a beach holiday? Sitting by the water with a Pina colada, perhaps you’re reading a book. What could be more relaxing…

A city break is also fantastic. Soaking up the culture, food and drink of another country. Wandering the old streets in east Europe or wandering the huge streets in America so many cities to choose from so little time to explore them all.

Have you ever been on safari? Imagine having the discovery channel in your living room and then picture it a thousand times better. When you see a giraffe grazing in the trees or a lion stalking its prey there is nothing more amazing and exciting. It takes you to another world where it doesn’t matter what’s happening on the TV because you’ll never see anything like this ever again.

For those who like more adrenaline pumping through the veins we have skiing or snowboarding. Hurtling down a mountain at top speed with the wind in your hair to then warm up at the end of a day with a toffee vodka. Sounds like bliss to some of you doesn’t it?

But alas, summer is over and we must get back to work. Now all we have to look forward to are cosy evenings by the fire with a glass of wine in our hand and our lazydogz on our feet!

  • The Perfect Lazy Sunday

We all love a lazy Sunday, you’ve had a stressful week at work, the weather’s rubbish and you really don’t want to do anything. So in order to make the perfect lazy Sunday happen we have to be a little bit organised on Saturday. There is nothing worse than being lounged across the sofa and then realising there...

We all love a lazy Sunday, you’ve had a stressful week at work, the weather’s rubbish and you really don’t want to do anything. So in order to make the perfect lazy Sunday happen we have to be a little bit organised on Saturday. There is nothing worse than being lounged across the sofa and then realising there isn’t a scrap of food in the house because disaster has then struck. You have to leave the house! So we have some Saturday recommendations to make sure that doesn’t happen.

First things first you need a comfy outfit. Chances are if the weather isn’t great it’s going to be a bit chilly (we all know how wonderful the English climate is). So you need a lovely, snuggly hoodie some nice trackie bottoms or if you’re feeling really adventurous go for the onesie. Now the title is the perfect ‘lazy’ Sunday not the perfect smelly Sunday so pop those in the wash for a quick spin on Saturday and all will be well. Now of course if your feet are cold your whole body is cold, so don’t forget your lazydogz!

We like our comfort food on a Sunday and there is nothing better than a slow-cooked casserole or a joint of meat. The best thing about this is you can prepare it all on Saturday leave it in the fridge and then let it cook all day Sunday. Our favourite is a leg of lamb and its super easy. On Saturday coat the lamb with olive oil, garlic, rosemary, salt, pepper and sweet paprika. Leave it in the fridge overnight wrapped in tin foil. On Sunday morning after your lie in (bliss) blast it for half an hour on a high heat and then let it slow cook for 4-5 hours at 120 degrees. You can be cheeky and have microwave mash and veg to go with it but best of all you won’t even need to cut it up because the meat will fall right off the bone.

Last but not least, entertainment. You don’t want to get to mid-afternoon and be bored out of your mind so make sure you have the essentials so keep you going. We love box-sets and even though we’ve all seen every episode of friends let’s be honest, there still hilarious. Who doesn’t love Chandler’s comedy, Rachel’s hair and Joey’s charm. So whatever your choice may be, make sure it’s downloaded or recorded and ready to roll. For those of you who don’t like TV make sure you’ve got yourself a good book. If it’s family entertainment you’re looking for why not try your local garden centre. They often have lots of jigsaws or board games (which always bring out everyone’s competitive side) so you can spend some quality time together without technology for a change.

    Enjoy your Sunday!

  • Top 10 tips for looking after your Lazy Dog

Don’t leave exposed wires that they could chew through or leave any human food lying around that could poison them for example,...

We all love our pooches, so here are some top tips to keep them well looked after and out of trouble…

    1. Whether you adopt an older dog or get a puppy make sure the house is safe. Don’t leave exposed wires that they could chew through or leave any human food lying around that could poison them for example, chocolate, grapes and onions.
    2. It gets cold outside in the winter so make sure your dog isn’t cold by having a warm coat or jumper for them to wear. Likewise if we’re lucky enough to have some warm weather (or you like a toasty home) you can buy a cool jacket so they don’t get to hot!
    3. Puppies are especially mischievous, to stop them going upstairs and spoiling the nice new carpet get a baby gate at the bottom to keep them out of trouble.
    4. To snuggle down at night in they need a soft, cosy bed. There are many different varieties from a flat mattress to fur lining, so test the waters and see what your lazy dog prefers.
    5. From experience dogs are curious and may wander off from time to time. Make sure they always return home by having a well-fitting collar and an identity tag with your phone number on. That way when they end up in the pub at the end of the road the landlord can call you and you can run up and get them.
    6. Many dogs like a little space to make their own so why not get them a cage and make it lovely and snuggly so they have somewhere to retreat to.
    7. Not forgetting about food and water, they need a bowl for each. To stop spillages why not try a non-slip bowl.
    8. For all you ladies out there you understand how painful it is to try and untangle knotty hair, it’s the same for your long-haired friend! Make sure you groom them regularly and keep them smelling beautifully by popping them in the bath once in a while.
